Ophthalmic Surgery
Our eyes are one of the most important organs in our body. Through our vision, we perceive nearly 80% of all impressions. However, the eyes are very fragile and when problems with vision arise, prompt treatment should be sought. While treatment may be as simple as vision correction with glasses or contacts, some conditions require surgery by an ophthalmic surgeon.
At Penn Highlands Healthcare, our board-certified ophthalmic surgeons use the latest technology to perform some of the most delicate eye surgeries. And, most eye surgeries can be performed on an out-patient basis.

What is a Cataract?
A cataract forms when the lens or part of the lens inside the eye becomes “cloudy” and no longer allows the proper amount of light to pass through that lens. Cataracts are considered a normal symptom of the aging process and typically affect people age 60 and older. If left untreated, a cataract can cause blindness, but for the vast majority of people it is a condition that is easily corrected. In fact, cataract surgery is the most common surgery performed today.
