Comprehensive Urology Care

Penn Highlands Healthcare urologists deliver expert, private and compassionate urologic care to patients throughout northwestern, central and southwestern Pennsylvania. Our board-certified urology doctors are highly experienced in treating disorders of the male reproductive organs and the urinary system for both males and females, including kidney stones, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, enlarged prostate and erectile dysfunction.

Our urologic oncologists are leading urology surgeons in the region, highly skilled in the use of robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery to perform radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, and partial and radical nephrectomy among many other types of urological surgery.

Our specially trained and highly experienced urologic oncologists offer state-of-the-art care to patients throughout Pennsylvania and beyond. We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers that affect the organs and structures of the urinary system and the male reproductive system. These include kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular and penile cancers.

Expert Urology Care

The field of urology extends to many organs and many conditions. And, unfortunately, many people suffer in silence when effective treatments are nearby. Penn Highlands urologists treat all conditions affecting the urinary tract, also called the urinary system. This system includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. The most common conditions that have very effective treatments include kidney stones, bladder stones, urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence (including stress incontinence) and overactive bladder.

Urology doctors also treat the male reproductive system. We treat common conditions in this field, including enlarged prostate (or BPH), prostatitis, erectile dysfunction and other types of male sexual dysfunction. Urologic oncology is a specialized type of urology that focuses on diagnosing and treating cancers in both of these areas. Urogynecology is a separate specialty that treats conditions of the female reproductive system, including cancer.

What conditions are treated at Penn Highlands urology clinics?

Penn Highlands urologists offer comprehensive care for conditions involving the urinary system in both males and females as well as conditions involving the male reproductive system and sexual health. The most common conditions and treatments include:

New and Effective Treatments for Kidney, Bladder and Ureteral Stones

No matter where stones occur in the urinary tract system, they can cause pain — sometimes excruciating and needing emergency treatment. We offer state-of-the-art kidney stone treatment, bladder stone treatment, and ureteral stone treatment, including the MOSES 2.0 laser technology that allows surgeons to break up large stones in the kidney, bladder or ureter and remove them during same-day surgery. Our urologists perform lithotripsy, ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) surgery. Read more.

Providing Answers to Male Reproductive Health and Sexual Dysfunction

While urologists treat urinary system conditions in both men and women, they specialize in treating the male reproductive system while other specialists called urogynecologists specialize in the female reproductive system.

The male reproductive system includes the penis, scrotum, testicles and prostate. Common conditions that we treat include:

  • Enlarged Prostate: This condition, technically called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is very common in men as they grow older. Half of men in their 60s will experience it and more than 80% will experience it by the time they reach their 70s. An enlarged prostate puts pressure on the bladder and urethra, causing difficulties with urination. There are several ways to treat BPH, including the UroLift implant and a surgery called Bipolar TURP. Read More.
  • Prostatitis: Similar to BPH, prostatitis causes inflammation of the prostate which can result in painful or difficult urination as well as pain in the groin, pelvis or genitals. Usually prostatitis can be treated with antibiotics and over-the-counter pain medication.
  • Erectile Dysfunction (ED): ED, also called impotence, is the inability to get or maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. It can result after removing the prostate to treat prostate cancer (a procedure called a prostatectomy) or it can be caused by one of many lifestyle or medical conditions. ED, for instance, can be caused by — and a warning sign of — clogged blood vessels that also can lead to heart attacks and strokes. While most men find ED embarrassing and do not want to discuss it, it is very important and very useful to talk to a urologist who can help identify the cause and, more importantly, treat the underlying cause and help return function. If lifestyle changes and medications don’t work, Penn Highlands urologist Dr. Indraneel Banerjee performs penile implants using the only implant on the market that has been clinically proven to have antibiotic treatment built in. The implant has high patient satisfaction for appearance and performance.
  • Male Sexual Dysfunction
  • Post-Vasectomy Pain Syndrome
