“We are here 24/7/365 to diagnose and treat people in the Centre County Region when you need emergency care,” said Shane Sergent, DO, Penn Highlands Healthcare Central Region Medical Director of Emergency Medicine. “Our physicians, providers and nurses have years of experience in treating all types of medical emergencies with skill and compassion.”

The Emergency Department at Penn Highlands State College:

  • Is staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians
  • Offers 10 private treatment rooms designed for patient privacy and comfort
  • Is equipped with a trauma room where patients can be stabilized
  • Offers two rooms with special features to keep at-risk patients safe

For patients who need a follow-up medication, a community pharmacy is located adjacent to the ED, on the first floor of medical office building, to fill the prescription before leaving the building.

If a patient needs to be admitted, Penn Highlands State College offers 18 private inpatient rooms for continued care.

QCare Walk-in Clinic

When you have an illness or injury that does not require a trip to the Emergency Department but needs attention before you can get in to see your primary care physician, Penn Highlands State College offers a convenient QCare Walk-in Clinic.

The providers at the QCare Walk-in Clinic, located in the State College Medical Office Building, treat a host of conditions including:

  • Colds
  • Coughs
  • Earaches
  • Fever
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Insect/Tick Bites
  • Minor aches
  • Minor cuts/abrasions
  • Minor eye problems
  • Rashes
  • Sprains
  • Vomiting

QCare is a perfect alternative for people who do not have a primary care physician or cannot get an appointment with their regular provider. Another benefit of receiving care at the QCare clinic is that if a prescription is needed, it can be filled at the community pharmacy before leaving the building too.
