Funmmy Esther Awoyomi, MD

Funmmy Esther Awoyomi, MD, provides care to Penn Highlands State College patients as a hospitalist. Dr. Awoyomi brings three years of experience to the Centre County community. Prior to joining Penn Highlands State College, she was a resident physician at RJWBarnabas Health where she implemented a preventive care initiative that increased the number of patients screened for chronic conditions resulting in early detection and intervention for potential health risks. In that position, she was recognized by the hospital’s Quality Control Committee for spearheading the implementation of evidence-based guidelines and protocols leading to a significant decrease in hospital-acquired infections.

Dr. Awoyomi received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis, IN and received her Medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands Antilles.

Kirti Sharma, MD

Kirti Sharma, MD, is a hospitalist who provides care to Penn Highlands State College inpatients. Dr. Sharma, who is board-certified in internal medicine, is experienced in hospital medicine. Most recently, she was the Medical Director of the Hospitalist Program at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler, PA. She also served in that same role at UPMC Bedford where she was a member of the Clinical Resource Management Committee. Dr. Sharma’s experience also includes hospitalist positions at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers, NY; Medicus Hospitalist Services, LLC; and Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, PA, where she began her professional career.

Dr. Sharma earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY and her Medical degree from Ross University in Dominica. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Throughout her career, Dr. Sharma has been involved in medical research. She conducted two National Institutes of Health research projects that studied the effects of various tissue growth factors on kidney diseases and mismatch repair deficiency in renal cell carcinoma. With Lutheran Medical Center, she investigated the effects of t-PA on the gastroenterology system and a hypertension referral study.

In her free time, Dr. Sharma enjoys, reading, writing short stories, cooking and visiting museums.
