Protect Yourself: COVID-19 Spread Is On The Rise
From football games to festivals, the fall is filled with many fun activities that put people close together. It’s important to remember that COVID-19 is still part of our lives, and in fact, it is currently spreading among people of all ages – in rural and urban areas.
“The number of COVID-19 cases is once again rising throughout Pennsylvania and continues to be a public health issue,” said Trina Abla, DO, MBA, System Chief Medical Officer at Penn Highlands Healthcare. “We strongly advise everyone to follow safety precautions to help protect yourself and your loved ones from contracting the virus.”
Precautions include:
- Wearing a mask in crowded indoor settings or if you have COVID-19 symptoms
- Practicing social distancing in public places
- Remaining vigilant with hand hygiene
- Staying up-to-date on your vaccine
The COVID-19 vaccine is one of the safest ways to protect against severe illness and hospitalization. The new vaccine targets the variants currently circulating in our communities. It is highly recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older.
In Northwestern and Central Pennsylvania, the COVID-19 booster vaccine is available at Penn Highlands Community Pharmacies in Clarion, DuBois, Punxsutawney, Ridgway and State College. It is also available at Bennetts Valley Pharmacy, Brockway Drug Co., McCabe Drug Store, Means Lauf Super Drug, SMP Pharmacy – Kane and St. Marys Pharmacy. In Southwestern Pennsylvania, contact your local pharmacy for availability.
If everyone follows these precautions, you may avoid contracting the virus and be able to enjoy the fall season.
